Winter Health & Wellness Initiative 2021

Campaign Overview
Winter 2021 presented unique challenges: ongoing COVID-19 concerns, flu season, and harsh weather conditions affecting vulnerable populations. The Health Initiative launched our Winter Health & Wellness Initiative to protect seniors, chronically ill individuals, and low-income families during the coldest months.
Services & Support Provided
- Flu Vaccinations: Free flu shots for seniors, chronically ill individuals, and families
- COVID-19 Vaccines: Assistance with vaccine scheduling, transportation, and administration when available
- Wellness Checks: Home visits for homebound seniors, health assessments, medication reviews
- Winter Warmth Kits: Blankets, warm clothing, space heaters for low-income households
- Nutritious Food Boxes: Healthy food deliveries for seniors and families in need
- Mental Health Support: Counseling services, support groups for isolation and winter depression
- Emergency Heating Assistance: Help with heating bills for families facing shut-offs
Priority Populations
Seniors living alone, individuals with chronic respiratory conditions, low-income families, homeless individuals accessing shelters, and isolated community members without family support.
Campaign Impact
- 2,500+ flu vaccinations administered
- 800+ COVID-19 vaccine appointments scheduled
- 450+ home wellness checks for seniors
- 600+ winter warmth kits distributed
- 350+ families received food boxes
- 200+ individuals accessed mental health support
- 125+ families received heating assistance
Volunteer Efforts
Medical volunteers provided vaccinations and wellness checks. Community volunteers delivered food boxes and winter supplies. Mental health professionals donated counseling hours. Together, over 100 volunteers contributed 2,000+ hours of service.
How Funds Were Used
- 30% – Flu and COVID-19 vaccines
- 25% – Winter supplies (blankets, heaters, clothing)
- 20% – Food boxes and nutrition support
- 15% – Emergency heating assistance
- 10% – Home visits and transportation
Campaign Results: EXCEEDED GOAL
Goal: $55,000 | Raised: $62,800 (114% of goal)
The overwhelming community response allowed us to serve hundreds more families than initially planned. No one was turned away, and we were able to extend services through March 2021.
